What Merchant are you doing business with? What are the pros/cons of it?
If you're working with several - what's the best and worst one? And why? Don't forget to back up your feedback with facts - they are crucial.

I use ModernAuthorize as my merchant. So far no problems with them.

i use SFCommerce for 1 site:
www.sfcommerce.com
and will be using PaySystems.com for my 2nd site opening soon.
www.paysystems.com
Paysystems appears as though it will be better for it's features, customer service, and reports it allows you to run :)

Hey there Canadian, I've heard good things about SFCommerce! One of my friends even recommended them to me, but I guess I decided to go with PaySystems.com after all for the same reasons you've mentioned and because they are also located in Montreal.
So if I ever get some troubles with them, I can always pay them a visit... :D

very true :)
Also, for my 2nd business..SFCommerce actually denied me because of the type of business it is (long story) so I looked at ArvicSecure, but they also denied me, which lead me to paysystems, and now I'm glad those others turned me down, and I may switch my current open biz to paysystems :)

I know SFCommerce charges a lot, but the service is quite decent. Is this true?
Also, I've had one transaction with PaySystems, so I can't really vouch for them - not enough history. In my other post I shared what the process of getting approved was like, you might want to check it out.
Also, PM your business site that gets denied. I'm curious. :)

Actually, they didn't charge much at all until recently.
They did charge
.35 per transaction
2.5% credit card fee
4% RMRF
Very recently, (past 2 weeks) they've added a flat $35 monthly fee on top of that which stinks.
The business which has been denied, my 2nd biz which isn't open for a few weeks yet is a simple Canadian dating site. CanaDate.com
Although zero nudity will be allowed on the site, 3 different merchants classied us as being pornography and "high risk", hence the denial. :( Oh well, their loss is paysystems gain :)
It was a very frustrating period though, they can't just tell you on the phone, you have to apply and wait 7-10 days to see if you're denied. SF commerce will NOT tell you WHY you've been denied, which i think is really nasty. I only assume that is why we were denied because that is what the other companies cited as their reason.
Cheers,
Canadian.

Here is a good suggestion to everyone: If you are applying for ANY merchant account, it is best if you include direct links to your Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Shipping Policy, Security Policy and all and any other policy that you have. Even the simplest version will do!
In your case, Canadian, they might have screened it when reviewing and if noted that your dating site is totally clean, they would more likely accepted it. But hey, $35 monthly fee is something I wouldn't want to pay either, so I think its best they denied it - PaySystems is better in this regard.
I would also suggest you to screen the agreement carefully. There are hidden fees in the contract. For example, the % transaction fee will vary from what they have on a web site and there are also different charges for customer support (there is certain limited for free customer help) and there are fees for making a refund (around $25 per refund or something).
So do not rush with them. Better to ask them questions before signing, since you can't say you didn't know that or that. Just a suggestion to everyone to always read the Online/Offline Agreements.
Best,
Canadian

I agree, but it's got to the point where if we want to go with a merchant account that accpets and settles transactions in CDn dollars, we've been booted away from everyone else lol
if you wanna look at the site so far (not complete)
go to www.CanaDate.com

Oh, yeah... I've just checked www.echo-inc.com rates and set up fee - looks fair and quite good!
Good luck with them. I hope you can report back to us with your feedback about their service and thoughts about how the setup process went.

Authorize.net merchants are very good. I like authorize.net overall because it is supported by 99% of shopping carts.
