I've always read (and it makes sense to believe) that search engine traffic is the best kind of traffic because it's very targetted--people are actively looking for what your site contains (usually).

But one of my sites in particular gets a lot of traffic from a link that's on another site with a similar theme. Would that traffic be just as good as the search engine traffic? What do you think?

Actually, the more link traffic, the more search engine traffic~

The more links from the similar web pages to your web pages, the higher search engine Page Rank. As the result, the more possible for your web site to be found in search engines~

One of the best way to get your traffic is to study the top results in the search engine in your subject. Find out how many outside linkds they have, try to add a link to your web pages from the same place~

Usually it is true search engine traffic is more targeted obviously has they had to type something to find you. The above said is true back links are a big factor in deciding your search engine ranking. First you should do some onpage optimization as you have the greatest control on that then build a great linking program.
