My very first host I googled, that was many years ago when they were small. Turns out they are the number 1 US webhost now.

Two Words : Globat Works!
I found out about them on WHT and HostingDiscussion and had a look at their site. At first they seemed to seriously oversell their package, but I spoke to their Sales support and had my mind put to ease.
At the time, all I wanted to do was set up a small PHPbb forum for an old friend of mine. 75gig Transfer seemed obscene...Overselling @ its worst. Thats what I honestly thought.
Anyway, I wasn't about to go with someone who offered me hosting for like $5 a year, so I looked around some more and found a site VERY similar to what I was planning to set up.
I spoke to the owner and within three days, I picked up the phone and ordered a package. I was very impressed with the domain registration and account set-up and had a temporary account set up whilst my Domain was still pending, which I found very impressive. I got a phone call to tell me my Temporary account was active and another one when the domain had been pointed. It was extremely impressed as it was an overseas phone-call and the consultant was very easy speaking and guided me through any of my questions...sure I admit, most of the time, I was just testing to see how much he knew, but I cant help myself!

Anyway, the package I purchased has served it's purpose well and through my satisfactory dealings with them, I have expanded to host a few Commerce sites there as well.

The one thing that has not impressed me very much, is their slack attitude towards support services. I expressed this in a thread earlier and merely are a little dissapointed by the lack of certain expertise and the response time of the Live Chat. As soon as I submit a ticket the question is solved, but the Live Consultants are hardly as efficient. Its not such a big thing for me, or else I might have moved! Overall however, Globat is still tops for me...8 out of 10!
